# How to Turn Off Firmware Updates on Printers That Use HP 962 Cartridges

HP released a wireless firmware update for HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 and 9020 series printers that may interrupt your use of compatible HP 962XL ink cartridges. Updating to this latest firmware version may prompt an "error code" message on your printer’s display, preventing you from using compatible cartridges.

Customers that want to continue using compatible cartridges may choose to avoid this update by turning off the automatic firmware update setting\* on your printer. Doing this stops an update from automatically downloading onto your printer and moving forward, your printer will have to ask you permission before downloading any updates.  With the automatic update setting turned off, _you_ get to decide when and if you want to download a firmware update, not your printer!
